Simon will continue in post until the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June 2022 when a new chair will be appointed. The recruitment process for his successor is underway.

After what will be 10 years as Chair of the Board of Thrive Renewables and 13 years in total as a non-executive director, Simon Roberts plans to step down in the summer of 2022. The company has grown five fold during this time, with five successful fundraises and an investor base of 6,000. Thrive’s portfolio now encompasses 13 operational wind farms, two hydro generators two solar and one battery storage project, with further solar, battery storage and the UK’s first deep geothermal electricity generating project in development.

“Simon has presided over a period of tremendous change and growth, taking Thrive from a team of three working as part of our founder, Triodos Bank, to an independent plc with 12 employees and assets under management of £94 million. We would like to thank Simon for his vision, determination, wisdom and passion which has been an inspiration to the whole team. We are conducting an open recruitment process to appoint Simon’s successor. We expect the new chair to be in place when Simon finishes his tenure at our AGM in June.” Charles Middleton, Senior Independent Director, Thrive Renewables

“It is exciting times here at Thrive Renewables as we enter another phase of ambitious growth, seeking to further widen ownership of renewable energy projects and fund more clean energy capacity for the UK. Simon’s contribution over the last decade has been fundamental to the growth of the business and its positive impact. We’re now in a great position to continue to diversify our portfolio and further enhance our impact.” Matthew Clayton, Managing Director, Thrive Renewables

“After a productive and very rewarding 13 years I have decided to step down from the Board at Thrive Renewables in order to devote more time to my role as Chief Executive at the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) which has doubled in size since 2016. Thrive continues to go from strength to strength, diversifying its renewable energy portfolio and investing in the future of the UK energy system. The company is well placed to grow further and flourish.” Simon Roberts, Chair of the Board, Thrive Renewables

The Chair of the Board at Thrive Renewables leads a team of three executive and five non-executive directors. The board is currently made up of four women and five men.
