Community Benefit Programme now open – tell us how you want climate action to look in your area
A new round of Thrive’s Community Benefit Programme, run by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), is now open. This year we’re widening the scope of our grants to support a broader range of community initiatives near our clean energy projects.
Thrive’s Community Benefit Programme has been running since 2016, helping community centres near our sites to make energy efficiency improvements that reduce bills and carbon emissions. During that time, we’ve awarded over £258,000 in grants to community centres across the UK, saving an estimated 99 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Building on the success of our existing programme, we’re now inviting communities to apply for grants that support a wider range of community initiatives, enabling local people to propose climate, nature or energy related projects that they feel are most needed in their neighbourhood. This could be initiatives that enable local people to take climate action, reduce emissions or save energy, or measures that improve access to green spaces and help people connect with nature in their area.
The programme is open to community initiatives located within a 15 mile radius of one of our rurally based clean energy projects, or within a 5 mile radius of one of our urban clean energy projects. Groups can apply for grants of up to £4,500. Full details on eligibility and how to apply can be found on CSE’s website here. Applications close on 26th November.
“Over 80% of us want more action on the climate crisis, but we often underestimate the support from others. By widening the scope of our Community Benefit Programme, we’re aiming to empower more community groups to take action on the climate and nature emergencies. We hope these grants will help communities near our projects to come together to share climate solutions– we’re really looking forward to being able to support some of the initiatives taking shape across the UK.”
“We’re delighted to be working with Thrive Renewables on the 10th round of the Community Benefit Programme. This years’ expansion of the scheme will support a wider range of community-led initiatives, empowering local people to turn their ideas into meaningful action on climate change and sustainability. We’re looking forward to working with Thrive to help community groups develop projects that make a real difference locally.”
