THRIVE’S wind farm open day at Avonmouth brings lots of smiles

  • Posted: 29 Sep 2017

As part of Bristol Doors Open Day this year, we were delighted to welcome around 250 guests to our Avonmouth wind farm getting up close to the turbines and enjoying a day out of family fun and education.

It was an all-weather day with downpours, high winds and sunshine! We extend a big thank you to all our visitors for making it such a great and engaging day despite the weather.

The free event invited adults and children living close to the site to come and learn more about renewable energy and the wind farms which are an everyday part of the Avonmouth landscape.  The event also provided an opportunity for our shareholders to come and see the impact their investment is achieving in terms of the renewable energy being generated and the valuable educational initiatives we support.

We had some wonderful feedback from the day, thank you to everyone who visited both investors and local neighbours.

What you said about the day

“Thank you for the great experience we had at Avonmouth yesterday. Well done to all your team for a very professional show and thanks for the stuff you were handing out.” P Evans

“I just wanted to let you know how much my five year old daughter and I enjoyed our visit to your wind farm on Saturday.  It was so informative and great fun.  We really enjoyed seeing the wind turbines up close, the measurements on the track really helped give an idea of the size of each piece.  Highlights were the explorer dome and the wonderful model landscape for placing your own wind turbines.

"Thank you for a wonderful morning and for the kite...it has been used already and will now be kept in the car ready for use every windy day!” F Pearce

“Just a quick note to thank the staff at the open day at the Avonmouth wind farm on Saturday, really interesting and we all enjoyed it." D Tyrer

“Thank you again for squeezing us in on Saturday. It was so lovely to meet you face to face. Wow, what an event! Thank you everyone that gave up their time to host the visitors. We all had such a lovely time, I really enjoyed chatting to all the partners and my children came away enthused about renewable energy, sustainability and banana cake made from leftover bananas! Win, Win!” R Creed and family

“Thank you for a privileged opportunity to see a wind turbine up close and personal, and learn how they function. Couldn’t help but marvel at their grandeur.” J Eades

A highlight of the event was the ExplorerDome interactive science show. Running throughout the day, the fantastically energetic shows delivered to an audience of over 100 excited children and adults - thank you ExplorerDome!

Especial thanks on the day goes to:

  • Our team of contractors, EcoGen for all their support
  • Locally based Lucille's for their delicious ice creams (even on a cool day)
  • The charity FoodCycle (Bristol Hub) for providing hot drinks, cold drinks and snacks from food which would have been wasted otherwise
  • Louisa at Lipstick, Powder & Paint for some very artistic and creative face painting
  • V3Power for their demonstration of the energy bike
  • CSE who offered home energy saving advice to visitors
  • The Landmark Practice for their information about ecology
  • Statkraft for showing how electricity is exported from the site
  • And, of course, to all our visitors.  We hope you had as much fun as we did
