Beochlich hydro electric project

Located in one of the best places for small scale hydro-electric generation in the country – Loch Awe, Argyll.

Project summary

The 1.0MW project consists of two turbines fed via a pipeline which creates water pressure to drive the turbines. After a productive 25 years supplying clean, homegrown power to the grid, in 2024 the operational life of Beochlich was extended for a further 25 years.

Through our nationwide community benefit programme, we have supported work to return the nearby Bridge of Orchy village hall to use. Our funding has paid for energy saving measures to help the hall continue operating as a hub for the local community and walkers on the West Highland Way.
