Simon Roberts OBE - Chair
Simon has spent more than 30 years helping people, organisations and policy-makers change the way they think and act on energy. For the last 15 years, he has been Chief Executive of the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), one of the UK's leading energy charities. Prior to this, he held senior roles at Friends of the Earth and Triodos Bank. He was Managing Director of Thrive Renewables (when it was The Wind Fund) from 2000-2002. In 2011 he was awarded an OBE for services to the renewables industry.
Matthew Clayton - Managing Director
Matthew has worked in the Thrive Renewables team (formerly Triodos Renewables) since 2006 and undertakes the overall full time management of Thrive Renewables Plc. In this time Matthew has contributed to 15-fold growth in the Company. Prior to joining Triodos Bank, Matthew was part of a small team which established Camco International, one of the world's leading carbon trading companies, focusing on supporting sustainable energy projects via the Kyoto framework.
Katrina Cross - Finance Director
Katrina joined Triodos Bank in 2012 as Head of Finance and Operations for Investment Management UK, which provided financial and administrative support to Triodos Renewables and investment funds managed by the bank in the UK. In 2015 Katrina left Triodos to set up her own business, but continues to provide Finance Director Services to Thrive Renewables and was appointed as Director in November 2016.
Colin Morgan - Non-executive Director
Colin is a Chartered Engineer who has worked in the renewable energy industry since 1987. He also works as a consulting engineer in Everoze, a technical and commercial clean energy consultancy which he co-founded. Previously, he grew and ultimately led one of the global regions for DNV GL – at the time the world’s leading renewable energy consultancy. Colin’s technical specialisms include: wind turbine design and analysis into wind farm wake effects and wind and energy resource assessment.
Charles Middleton - Senior Independent Director
Charles has spent most of his career in banking, initially at Barclays where he worked in the UK and overseas in India, Botswana and the Caribbean. More recently he was Managing Director of Triodos Bank in the UK for 14 years developing his interest in supporting environmental and social projects. During this time he was actively involved in the development of Triodos Renewables up until the moment it became Thrive Renewables. Charles is Chair of ChildHope an organisation that works with street children across the world and is a Trustee of Freedom From Torture.
Katie Gordon - Non-executive Director
Katie has spent most of her career in socially responsible investment (SRI) and corporate marketing. She was Head of SRI at Cazenove Capital Management for 12 years, where she initiated, led and developed the SRI offering. This was followed by 5 years as Director of Responsible Investment and Stewardship at CCLA. Prior to working in SRI, Katie spent 5 years in strategic brand management, and was founding director of Swordfish Integrated Marketing. Previous board positions include 7 years as a trustee of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and board director of UK Sustainable Investment Forum (UKSIF). Katie is currently an independent member of the Access Endowment Investment Committee; advisor to the Access to Nutrition Foundation; and on the Advisory Board of LEAP - Livestock, Environment and People at Oxford University.
Peter Weston - Non-executive Director
Peter is Director of Investment Advisory at Energy 4 Impact, a non-profit organisation which advises small businesses in off-grid sustainable energy in Sub Saharan Africa. Peter is an expert in renewable energy, bringing to the Thrive board 20 years' experience as an investor, lender and strategic adviser in the renewable energy sector. He is a board member of Renewable World, which manages micro-scale renewable projects in developing countries, and a visiting lecturer on energy finance at ESCP Business School.
Tania Songini - Non-executive Director
Tania joined the Board as Chair of the Audit Committee on 22 October 2015. She has recently embarked on a portfolio career of non-executive Director roles and business consulting work. Tania is also Treasurer and Trustee on the board of Bond, the British network of NGOs working in international development. Tania joined Siemens in 1997 as a commercial bid and project manager and progressed to hold a number of Finance Director and Non-Executive Board Director. Tania is the Chair of ViaNinos UK, a charity she established in the UK in 2009 that supports children in Ecuador.
Monika Paplaczyk – Investment Manager
Monika has been part of the Thrive Renewables since 2007 and joined the team whilst the company was managed by Triodos Bank. In her role as Senior Investment Manager, Monika leads the originating, development, acquisition and construction of sustainable energy assets for Thrive Renewables. Monika also manages the commercial aspects of the portfolio, such as sourcing and negotiating power purchase arrangements. Before joining Triodos Bank Monika worked in Edinburgh for a consulting company where she was involved in preparing business plans and grant applications for community development, biomass and grain storage projects.
Adrian Warman – Operations Manager
Adrian joined Thrive Renewables (formerly Triodos Renewables) in 2012 as Operations Manager in response to the growing portfolio of generating sites around the country. The role of Operations Manager is to ensure contracts are in place and fulfilled to maintain our operating assets in line with legislation and industry standards, allowing them to run most efficiently and productively over time. Prior to joining Thrive Renewables Adrian spent seven years at a senior level in the energy efficiency sector with a leading carbon reduction company focused on identifying and implementing appropriate energy-saving measures in the built environment.
Louise Daniels - Communications & Marketing Manager
Louise joined Thrive Renewables in September 2018. She has been working in marketing communications for more 25 years, initially in PR consultancy and latterly in house for ethical business and social enterprises. Renewable energy is one of her passions and she has considerable experience in the sector, having previously handled PR for Good Energy and Mongoose Energy. At Thrive, Louise is responsible for managing communication with all external stakeholders including shareholders, partners, the industry and local communities.
Sarah Barnett - Investor Support
Sarah has worked with Thrive Renewables since 2010. Prior to this she worked for two Bristol based Independent Financial Advisor firms in administration and paraplanning roles. Sarah’s role is to work with the Company Registrar and the Matched Bargain Market service providers to ensure investor administration runs smoothly, and to be the first point of contact for investors and enquiries to Thrive Renewables. Sarah also assists with organising and delivering the Company AGMs and open days, and supports the team with a variety of projects. Sarah has a BA Joint Hons in English Literature and Media Studies from the University of Birmingham.
Karen Pugh - Financial Accountant
Karen joined Thrive Renewables as the Assistant Accountant in 2014 and was promoted to Financial Accountant in 2018. Karen’s main role is to prepare the management accounts for the operational sites in our portfolio along with the day to day accounting activities of these sites. Prior to this she worked for an American Library Management Software Company for their UK office as an Assistant Accountant, her role included preparation of the monthly management accounts for the overseas subsidiaries of the UK office. Karen is ACCA qualified and is a full member of the body.
Tom Barratt - Project Manager
Tom is a mechanical engineer with an MBA and over 25 years’ experience in the power sector. He has worked on the project management of hydro projects before joining a consultancy providing engineering and project management services to developers and investors in the renewable energy sector. In this capacity he was the project manager for Thrive Renewables’ windfarms at Avonmouth, Boardinghouse, Auchtygills and Clayfords. Tom joined Thrive Renewables as Project Manager in 2018, supporting the investment team in the development of new investment projects.
Bryony Carter - Communications Executive
Bryony joined Thrive Renewables in May 2019 as Communications Executive. Prior to Thrive she worked at the Natural Environment Research Council as Science Communications and Evaluation Officer. Bryony is passionate about the environment and empowering young people and has experience working with youth groups and projects across Manchester promoting engagement in climate action and youth leadership. Bryony is responsible for the day to day social media management, maintaining the website, writing articles for our website and other organisations, writing awards entries and evaluation. She also assists with investor support, events and the wider team on a variety of projects. Bryony has a BSc in Marine Biology with Oceanography from the University of Southampton.
Jack Searle - Finance and Administration Apprentice
Jack joined Thrive in 2019 as Finance and Administration Apprentice and is working towards his AAT level 3 and 4 qualification. Prior to joining Thrive, Jack studied at City of Bristol collage to obtain his AAT level 2 certificate. His role includes processing invoices, preparing payments, supporting the Financial Accountant with day to day accounting activities and supporting members of the wider team with administrative tasks.
Otis Harrison - Investment Analyst
Otis joined Thrive Renewables in October 2020 as Investment Analyst. He is a CFA Charterholder with over 6 years’ experience in banking, environmental corporate finance, green investments, renewable energy project development and financial modelling. Otis is responsible for researching new investment opportunities and sectors, originating, modelling and executing investments in line with Thrive’s Investment Criteria, and analysing other commercial aspects of the existing portfolio. Before joining Thrive, Otis worked as an Investment Analyst for a solar developer covering utility scale projects in Mexico. He has a BSc in Chemistry from Queen Mary University of London.
Bridge Wind Management is a dynamic organisation with considerable experience across the renewables sector and well aligned to the values and objectives of Thrive Renewables. They have a range of internal expertise, demonstrated through their development business and employed by Thrive Renewables in their asset and site management services.
WPO is an international organisation with experience of renewable energy development and management across the globe. Over many years, Thrive Renewables is delighted to have built a strong working relationship with their UK team, bringing new projects into our portfolio and assisting with the management of an increasingly complex number of operational sites.
